HBHS Football Winners for 10th Consecutive Year

30th Aug 2010, 9:08am

Hamilton Boys' High School 1st XI has secured its 10th consecutive Waikato Secondary Schools Premier Football competition title.

The boys in red and black were held to a 2-2 draw away to St Peter's School in the last league game of the season on Saturday, but the win was enough for them to keep up their unbeaten streak.

If St Peter's had won the game, they would have taken the championship, and although the decider was meant to be played at HBHS, the defending champions agreed to take the game to the challengers ground as the HBHS pitches were waterlogged.

HBHS took the lead after 22 minutes, when Josh Margetts produced a glancing header at the near post from a corner, and the visitors took their one-goal lead to the halftime break.

HBHS Gateway Jockey Apprentice

12th Jun 2012, 10:32am

Hamilton teenager Joshua Oliver added his name to the list of recent first-time winning apprentices when he scored on Bijoux in his third raceday ride at yesterday’s New Plymouth fixture in February.

Oliver still attends Hamilton Boy’s High School, where he is in the sixth form, and is apprenticed to Graeme Rogerson. He has had an association with the Tuhikaramea stable for 18 months and the 16-year-old’s first winning mount, a home-bred by Duelled, is also owned by Rogerson.

"When Joshua came to us he was a young kid who had virtually never ridden a horse," stable spokesman Murray Gregory told www.theinformant.co.nz. "He started on the lead pony and his dedication has taken him all the way to now be a race winner.

HBHS Golfers Beat National Champions

1st May 2012, 2:06pm

Hamilton Boys’ have pulled off the unthinkable; knocking out last year’s national champions in the Inter-Collegiate Golf Championships. This means that HBHS will be representing the Waikato in the national competition in Waipu during the winter tournament week.

The Inter-Collegiate trophy has returned to Boys’ High for the first time in a number of years. Our golfers have been fighting for a spot in the top team to contest this trophy since the start of the year, enduring 1st XV trainings, Friday 6.30am driving range sessions, summer league and school golf champs. Practice rounds in the holidays and the day before the competition were the perfect lead-up to the regional competition at Matamata. We won by three shots, with one of the lowest every recorded team scores of 5 under. This was achieved by Steven Kuggeleijn 69 (2 under) , Regan Kidd (3 under), Denzel Iremia (Par) and Hamish Kerr (Par).

HBHS Gully Project

23rd Apr 2012, 8:09am

The HBHS Gully Restoration Group is a student-run initiative with the help of John Lockley from the University of Waikato.  Our aim is to restore the Gibbons Creek Gully on HBHS property to its natural state and provide an interesting learning environment for a number of curriculum areas. Over the last few years, a group of environmentally-minded students have been co-ordinating planting and clean up days with wider community involvement to improve the gully environment.

On Saturday 31st March around 16 people, students, parents and teachers came for the morning to help clear vegetation from around trees that had been planted last year, especially in the area behind the pond. It was hard work, but still lots of fun and rewarding to see previous year's plantings growing.

HBHS has left the building! The 2013 Charity Run for Life

19th Apr 2013, 2:15pm

The annual HBHS Run for Life has quickly become one of the favourite events in the school calendar, and this year nearly 2000 staff and students took to the streets of Hamilton to raise money for the KidsCan charity. The circuit is just over 6km in length, and takes the runners, walkers and unicyclists down along the Waikato River, across the Cobham Street Bridge and back up to the Rowing Club. This year the school is proud to have raised $8100 and counting for KidsCan, a charity that supports children living in poverty in New Zealand and gives them all of the opportunities that so many of us take for granted in our country. A special thank you and congratulations must go to Mr Pat Cheyne, the teacher in charge of the Run For Life, and his team of marshalls and to Fulton Hogan for their support with traffic management. The Latest News would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday, and we will continue to keep you posted with updates and news as it comes to hand.
