Stunning New Addition to Music Suite

HBHS has just purchased a substantial new addition to its Music Suite; a Kawai grand piano.  The instrument it replaces is a small upright model that features in school photos from the 1940s.  The purchase was made so that the burgeoning number of pianists in the school can perform to their potential during NCEA assessments.  Access to a grand piano is important for top pianists; we currently have students who are completing qualifications at the highest level, so to be able to provide good resources for them is really satisfying.

The piano is six feet and one inch long.  It is approaching the size of a full grand piano, of the kind that concert pianists play.  The piano that HBHS  uses specifically

Success at the Porritt Classic

The Hamilton Boys' High School Athletics Team had yet another successful meeting on Saturday the 11th of February at the 2013 Porritt Classic.  Year 12 student Jacob Priddey added to his impressive season coming 1st in the 1500m with a time of 3:58.60 minutes, breaking his own senior school record. Theunis Pieters also ran a sub 4 minute race to come in 2nd place. In the same race, Hamilton Boys' High School entered a 3 man team (Jacob Priddey, Theunis Pieters, and Blair Pennell) and came in 1st place, receiving the Dick Quax trophy for the second consecutive year. The successful day was finished off with a 3rd place in the Sprint Relay event.

Success at Waikato/BOP Triathlon Competition

The Waikato/Bay of Plenty Team Triathlon competition was held yesterday, involving over twenty secondary schools from the greater Waikato and Bay of Plenty area.  Hamilton Boys' High School was well represented at each level, placing first in each of the categories entered.  The winning teams are as follows:

Success for Cyclists at North Island Secondary Schools Championships

Congratulations to the HBHS Cycling team on their success at the North Island Secondary Schools Championships over the past weekend. The Senior A Time Trial Team won gold for the third consecutive year, which is a feat that has not been achieved by any other school over the past 10 years. The results achieved by the HBHS riders meant that HBHS placed third overall in the school standings with a comparatively small team of 20 riders. Congratulations to the team and thanks to the supporters and sponsors. HBHS Cycling is proudly supported by Evolution Cycles and Ricoh.

Success on home soil for HBHS 1st XV

The HBHS 1st XV have qualified for the Chiefs Cup final with a comprehensive 37 - 3 victory over Wesley College at HBHS this afternoon after leading 18 - 0 at half time. This means HBHS will meet a yet-to-be-determined opponent in the finals next weekend. The 1st XV will have a mid-week match against Auckland Grammar this Wednesday as part of the annual exchange, which may become a Moascar Cup match should Auckland Grammar successfully defend the trophy this weekend. In other rugby results, the 2nd XV did not have a match, and the 3rd XV (pictured, right) won their way into the Waikato first division competition with a hard-fought 27 - 12 victory over Tokoroa High School 1st XV in Tokoroa.
