Strawbridge Cup returns to HBHS
HBHS Under 15B, coached by Hemi Coates and Pat McFetridge, has returned the Andrew Strawbridge Cup (Waikato Under 15A Competition) to Boys' High after an undefeated season. The team played 'above' their ranking and enjoyed a particularly successful year using the strengths of each individual and clear strategies to win each game.
Andrew Strawbridge is an Old Boy and ex-staff member of HBHS. The Chiefs recently signed him as third assistant coach, focussing on skills work. Strawbridge is a former Waikato outside back who played 131 games and scored 646 points for the province. Prior to his Chiefs appointment, he has been the Auckland assistant coach in the ITM Cup, and a teacher at Cambridge High School.

Congratulations are in order to the creative team of HBHS boys who featured on ‘Close Up’ recently. Over the last two years Hamilton Boys’ High students Juan Robertson, Robin Kuyper, Nathaniel Watson, David Robinson, Simon Lillis, Stephen Sutjipto and David Ju have been working on a short film project titled ‘Potential’. After persevering through many problems, delays, script rewrites, endless rendering hours, and a certain team member forgetting to put a lens in his letterbox, the film was finally completed and premiered at Event Cinemas on October 3rd.
The premier was a huge success with both screenings selling out. The team is currently in rehabilitation mode, trying their best to stay away from away film projects in the ‘near’ future. They wish to thank all the staff and students who helped with the film as it would not have been possible without your support. They would also like to acknowledge the generous support of their sponsors: Herbert Morton, Hamilton Plumbing Co. Ltd, Steel & Tube, Jay Car Electronics, The Fibreglass Shop, Hamilton Industrial Spray Painters Ltd, Bunnings Warehouse and Metal Man.

Students adopt 3D approach
A TOUR of a big budget Auckland movie set convinced a group of Hamilton Boys' High School movie-makers to shoot their latest production in 3D.
The team, billing themselves as Monumental Media, have already completed a series of works and cut a deal with their school to give them time to complete a 40-minute 3D film by December.
Monumental members Juan Robertson and Robin Kuyper got a start in film-making while at Hamilton Christian School. Juan co-directed Esther with teacher Dennis Stevenson and Robin worked on the sound boom.
Arriving at Boys' High in 2007, Juan and Robin were joined by David Robinson who came on board to help with the 3D animation. The trio entered the 2008 TV2 Mad Movie Challenge with their first combined work titled Thrust - and won. With additional members Nathaniel Watson and Simon Lillis, the team entered agai n in 2009 and won, this time with Havoc.
