Super 8 Golf

16th Mar 2011, 8:37am

The HBHS Golf team left for Gisborne on Sunday, where the boys played nine holes in the warm up round of the 2011 Super 8 Golf competition.  On Monday, in very hot conditions, the boys played thirty six holes.  After the first eighteen, they were one shot behind Rotorua Boys' High, who then pulled away in the afternoon to gain a fourteen shot lead.  Tauranga Boys'  were four shots ahead of HBHS by then end of the day.  Tuesday's round allowed the boys to win back six shots on Rotorua, but they were unable to gain any ground on Tauranga.

HBHS came third, after three huge days of golf.  Mr Neethling and Mr Jarrett were very pleased with the boys' conduct, and their support of their team mates.  Special mention was made of Denzil Ieremia (Year 11), who shot a 70 (two below par) on the course.

Super 8 Golf results

6th Mar 2013, 12:48pm

The HBHS Golf team finished second overall in the recent Super 8 Golf Championships, behind Tauranga Boys' College.  Captain of Gold, Denzel Ieremia (pictured second from left), was the best performed of the HBHS team, finishing on an even score.  However, an 8 under final score by the best performed golfer from Tauranga was always going to be very difficult to beat, and HBHS finished four shots behind the Tauranga Boys' College team.  Thanks to Mr Brendon Cooley for his continued support of HBHS golf.

Super 8 Success Stories

1st Aug 2013, 2:48pm

Two HBHS sports teams have returned from competitions as champions, with the 1st XI hockey team and the 1st XI football team proving too strong for their Super 8 opposition this week.  The hockey team blasted their way through pool play, tested only by Hastings Boys' High School who they edged past 2 - 1. The semi-final against New Plymouth Boys' High School was won by HBHS in a comprehensive 9 – 0 thumping.  In the final, HBHS were down a goal against Palmerston North Boys' High School, but came back strongly to win 4 - 1.  Jonty Keaney was the tournament's top goal scorer.  The HBHS 1st XI football team breezed through their pool play, only conceding goals against New Plymouth Boys' High School.  Things tightened up in the semi-finals, and Hastings Boys' High School pushed HBHS in a tense 3 - 2 encounter.  The final against New Plymouth was a nail-biter and went to the very end of extra time, with Michael Sugar scoring the all-important goal before having to resort to a penalty shootout.  Finally, the HBHS Senior Basketball team placed a creditable fifth, scoring wins against Rotorua Boys' High School and Gisborne Boys' High School. The full list of competition results and scores is as follows:
