Super 8 Winners Start Knockout Competition

22nd Aug 2012, 2:29pm

Hamilton Boys' High School 1st XV rugby team (current Super 8 Champions) will play Rotorua on Saturday at 12.00 on the Number 1 rugby field, in the first round of the Chiefs Knockout playoffs.  All staff, students and friends of the school are invited to attend the game and support the boys by wearing school colours.

Greg Kirkham (1st XV Coach) commented on the team's progress:

After beating Gisborne three weeks ago, to wrap up the title, we played Hastings last weekend.  Unfortunately we went down 15 - 14, but it was a good game.  We lost the Super 8 last year, for the first time in six years, so it was good to have an opportunity to see if we could return this trophy to the school.  The boys have been playing well all season and we are looking forward to moving into the Chiefs Knockout challenge.  If we beat Rotorua we play Wesley College, then go through as Chiefs representatives to the top four.  This has given us plenty of motivation over the last week.
