Stunning New Addition to Music Suite

HBHS has just purchased a substantial new addition to its Music Suite; a Kawai grand piano.  The instrument it replaces is a small upright model that features in school photos from the 1940s.  The purchase was made so that the burgeoning number of pianists in the school can perform to their potential during NCEA assessments.  Access to a grand piano is important for top pianists; we currently have students who are completing qualifications at the highest level, so to be able to provide good resources for them is really satisfying.

The piano is six feet and one inch long.  It is approaching the size of a full grand piano, of the kind that concert pianists play.  The piano that HBHS uses specifically for assemblies in the Hall is a little under seven feet long, so comparatively, our new purchase provides impressive acoustics.  Pianists who have played the new instrument are very pleased with its action, and we anticipate that both students and teachers will be cuing to use it in the near future.
