Waikato Waterpolo Winners HBHS

15th Jun 2010, 10:43am

The Waikato Secondary School Waterpolo Championship came to a conclusion on Wednesday 9th June, after a long and grueling season. HBHS had a huge, vocal turn out of supporters, which was great for morale. The game started at a frantic pace, and St Johns missed an early opportunity. HBHS then got on a roll and two quick goals later, we were in a controlling position at the end of the first quarter. As confidence grew, we shot out to a 6-2 lead at half time with some excellent play from Rahiti Teokotai-White and Sam Franicevic. St Johns started to claw their way back in the second half and with five minutes to play, the lead was down to two. A frantic last quarter saw both teams giving it everything to take victory, however the deciding moments came when Peter Overmire saved to penalty shots to secure the first Waikato title for HBHS. We would like to thank our supporters for contributing to the great atmosphere on the night.
