What is School-Links?

28th May 2012, 1:29pm

School-Links is an online communication portal that allows the school to text and email parents with important notices about events at the school.  It features on the home page of HBHS’ website, (look on the left hand column.) It is also used as an early notification tool, to let parents know if a student is absent without explanation.

From the school’s perspective, one of the most powerful uses for School-Links is in making targeted groups.  We can group bands, year levels, groups of caregivers from particular sporting or cultural codes, and we can send messages out to those groups, to let them know about up-coming events as well as the latest news and information.

For example, I’ve created a group for my 1st XI football caregivers.   I will send them an email, which costs the school nothing, to give them reminders about what is coming up the next day; to bring a plate to a game, or to remember that fees have to be paid by the end of next week – that type of thing.  This is an extremely handy tool to have at our disposal.

Wills Represents NZ in Volleyball

10th Sep 2012, 9:48am

HBHS student Morgan Wills has developed a significant national profile, playing for the New Zealand Under 17 Men's Teams (black and white uniform Morgan is shirt number 3) and the Hamilton Men's Team (blue and yellow uniform, shirt number 8).

The New Zealand U17 team travelled to Australia on the 28th of July for two weeks, to compete in the State Championships in Victoria. They remained unbeaten in the first week, finishing second overall because, as a foreign team, they were not allowed to compete in the final. The team then travelled to Horsham for the Trans-Tasman Test Series, where they played the Australian Under 18 National Youth team and lost 0-3 in the series.

Morgan travelled down to Nelson in the Hamilton Men's Team, to compete in the National Club Championships on the 22nd of August. The first day the team came up against the defending champions (Sparta) and lost 2-3, but then played North Harbour and won 3-0. On Day Two, the team played South Auckland and had a very close game, losing 1-3. On Friday they played Nelson Pines

Winning Weekend for HBHS Rugby Teams

17th Jun 2013, 9:38am

The HBHS 1st XV have returned from Palmerston North with their winning record intact, having beaten the Palmerston North Boys' High School 1st XV 37 - 21.  It was a very good away fixture for the school, with the 2nd XV beginning the day with a comprehensive 45 - 7 win over their Palmerston North Boys' High School counterparts.  Back in Hamilton, the 3rd XV needed a second half revival after being 10 nil down at halftime to Morrinsville College 1st XV.  The 3rd XV eventually fired up, winning the game 20 - 13, courtesy of some strong forward play.  The HBHS 1st XV put the Moascar Cup (pictured at right) on the line this weekend at home against Rotorua Boys' High School in a repeat of the Chiefs Cup final, this time for Super 8 competition points.
