Nine in a Row for HBHS Football

25th Aug 2009, 12:02pm

Last Saturday the Hamilton Boys’ High School 1st XI Football team broke its own record yet again, by winning the Waikato Secondary Schools Football Premier League Championship for the ninth consecutive year. The hard fought 1-0 win over fierce rivals St Paul’s Collegiate was a fitting end to a season that gone right down to the wire.

St Paul’s had the better of the first half, dominating the centre of midfield and growing in confidence as the game continued. Both sides had their share of chances, but St Paul’s coach Mike Groom could sense an upset and must have gone into the break thinking this was St Paul’s year. But HBHS Coach Dave Edmondson put in place a game plan that took the game completely away from the hosts after half time.

North Island Cycling Championship Wins

4th Jul 2011, 10:38am

Scott Creighton (Year 13, U20) and Sam Dobbs (Y10, U15) are the fastest cyclists in the North Island, in their respective classes. The HBHS Senior A team (of which Creighton is a member) came first out of 36 teams entered in the competition on Saturday. Racing conditions were superb, and the competition amongst riders from schools like Auckland Grammar and Mount Albert Grammar was especially fierce.

We are pleased to report that Danyon Inwood and Boris Clark came fifth and sixth respectively in the U17 race, and that a number of HBHS riders placed well. The Junior A team came seventh overall in their class, and overall, despite competing against larger squads, HBHS came fourth in the North Island on points.

We congratulate the teams, Mr Hardaker, and the parent supporters who have followed the boys’ season so closely. We will keep you posted on National competition results as they come to hand.

Nyika to Boxing Junior World Championships

1st Jul 2011, 12:39pm

David Nyika (Year 11) had tried a number of sports but none of them had the killer punch that boxing did.

So a year and a half ago he took up the sport, and now, after just seven fights, he finds himself set to travel to Kazakhstan for next month's Junior World Championships.

The 15-year-old competes in the 60kg lightweight division and his selection for the overseas event is his biggest achievement so far.   Read more at:

NZ Army Band visits HBHS

17th May 2011, 8:15am

The New Zealand Army Band is on a tour which includes schools; HBHS snapped up the opportunity to secure a performance, which occurred during assembly yesterday.  We have established links with the band, and are investigating ways to help some of our top musicians sign up for both a musical and military career.

The Army Band play a wide repertoire of music from Glen Miller classics to Michael Jackson.  A highlight of the performance was a rousing rendition of 'Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy'.  The group were well received by the boys, and have highlighted an important aspect of Army life: that it is possible to cultivate life long skills in a very broad range of disciplines when you become a soldier.
