HBHS 1st XV seek national title this Saturday

10th Sep 2013, 7:58pm

The HBHS Number 1 field is THE place to be this Saturday, as our 1st XV will face a St Kentigern team that has played more than 50 matches without losing this season in the national final of the 1st XV competition.  This is going to be a very stern challenge for our 1st XV so the team would love to see as many supporters as possible on our home sideline in HBHS red and black to cheer them on.  It has been a record-breaking season on the sports fields for HBHS and we wish the team the very best of luck as they seek to win this prestigious title. The match will begin at 2.45pm and will be televised live on Sky 064 The Rugby Channel with coverage beginning at 2.30pm.  See you at the game!  Thanks to team manager Mrs Barbara Clark for the photo of the team at right in action against Wellington College in the semi-final played last Saturday.

HBHS 1st XV To Defend National Title

3rd Sep 2010, 4:34pm

After a nail-biting finish, Hamilton Boys' High School won their game against Gisborne High School this afternoon, and will play in the National final at 2.00pm tomorrow in Rotorua.  The final score was 19 - 17, and a failed Gisborne penalty attempt in the last five minutes of the game meant that spectators were on the edges of their seats until the final whistle. Kirtis McNaughten, Josh Fa'agalu and Isaako Peato-Lister scored tries and Josh Smith added two conversions in this near-run contest.

We look forward to letting you know the outcome of tomorrow's game against Mount Albert Grammar as promptly as possible.  If HBHS win, they will retain the right to defend their World title in Japan next year.

HBHS 1st XV to play National Finals

30th Aug 2010, 2:37pm

HBHS 1st XV rugby team won a crucial game against Wesley College on Saturday. Co-coach of the 1st XV, Greg Kirkham reviewed the encounter:

What were your impressions of the game?

It was probably one of the best games of the season for us, in terms of sticking to the plan that we had set, using our forwards in terms of trying to dominate.  Also driving play, and then when we had numbers, using our back line.  It was a big, big effort in terms of that.

Obviously you are pleased with the result (27 – 12)?

Very pleased with the result. It was probably in our hands to say ‘if we score four tries, we don’t have to worry about any other calculations’, so when we scored four tries we could stop worrying.  For us it means we now do more work, because we go to Nationals on Friday.  We have to take everything up another notch. We are playing at Rotorua Boys’ High School, and are playing Gisborne Boys’ High School at 2.00 pm.  That will be the second game in the top four.

HBHS 1st XV versus Wesley - the match report

24th Aug 2013, 12:45pm

HBHS's Mitchell Brant was at the play-off match on Saturday, and filed this report:

HBHS 1st XV are through to the quarter finals after beating a very physical Wesley College side 29-10. After both teams exchanged very emotional hakas, the first half saw a largely dominant Hamilton Boys' side. The first try was scored by Paula Narawa who's been in fine scoring form of late but Sam Chongkit should take as much credit, running a good line and showing pace before giving a final pass to Paula.  Hamilton continued to look threatening when they spread the ball through the back line and managed one more try before the break. (Article cont)

HBHS 1st XV win Chiefs Cup 47 - 0!

1st Jun 2013, 4:56pm

In what Sky TV called a "clinical" display, the HBHS 1st XV have won the Chiefs Cup Final 47 - 0 over Rotorua Boys' High School 1st XV. The match was still up for grabs at half time with the score at 16 - 0 thanks to a try by Caleb Korteweg and some precision kicking by Bryn Gatland, but HBHS ran away with it in the second half, with Raukawa Neems continuing his run of form and scoring two tries, which Player of the Match Bryn Gatland duly converted.  Substitute forward Jarrod Gwynne was the next HBHS player to score, with a final try under the posts added by Mikaere Beattie.  Both of these tries were also converted by Gatland, who added another penalty kick early in the second half.  The HBHS 1st XV would like to thank all of their supporters, Sky Television, and their sponsors Heartland Bank, Jacanna Customs and Freight, Lodge Real Estate and Pacific Auto Carrier.  A detailed match report will follow on both the website and in the Term 2 High Achiever.  Congratulations team!
