2011 HBHS Arts Awards
The HBHS 2011 Arts Awards were held in the Hall on Tuesday October 4. The evening was well attended and included a range of music, theatre, speech making and presentations. One of the many highlights of the evening was the announcement of the birth of Head of Language, Arts and Music Faculty Adrian Botting's first grandchild. We congratulate all of the performers and prize winners, and thank the members of our community who shared this evening with us.

2011 HBHS Powhiri
Over five hundred new members of Hamilton Boys' High School were welcomed into our family this morning. Year 9s and new staff were called on to the grounds and recognised by current Year 13s, teaching faculty and the senior management team. The rights and responsibilities of our new students were explained by the Headmaster, Mrs Hassall, as well as the role they play as the future of the school. The Year 13s performed a rousing haka (click on the attached link) and modelled the decorum and high standards of personal presentation expected from school leaders.
The parents of Year 9 students shared morning tea with staff after the powhiri, while their sons were provided with orientation tours and introductory activities by their tutor teachers and the Year 13s. All Year 13 students are currently being considered for leadership roles, including prefect positions. They will leave for Leadership Camp tomorrow, and take this final opportunity to show staff and their peers the qualities that set them apart. We look forward to the announcement of these positions, and the continued smooth settling-in of our newest members, with great anticipation.

2011 HBHS Sports Awards Evening
Sporting excellence in all of its forms was celebrated at the 2011 HBHS Sports Awards evening. It was wonderful to be able to acknowledge the national and international achievements of many of our elite sportsmen. The Senior Premier Touch team have won the New Zealand Secondary Schools competition for three years in a row; they are a supremely fit, cohesive group who have flourished under the guidance of HBHS coaches. Scott Creighton has excelled on the international cycling stage, and has supported his team mates during the first HBHS National Cycling competition win in the school’s history. We congratulate all of the nominees and winners, and thank Murray McKenzie and Barbara Clark for organising such a successful event.
