1st XI Football Super Eight Champions

Hamilton Boys’ High School’s 1st XI Football team overcame both hostile opposition and weather in Gisborne earlier this week to claim the New Zealand Super Eight Football Shield for the first time since 2002. Gisborne Civil Defence was on full alert as rain pounded the area and threatened to cause the tournament to be abandoned, but by making use of alternative grounds the games were allowed to continue.

Hamilton Boys’ got its Super Eight campaign off to a positive start on Monday morning with a 3:1 win over hosts Gisborne Boys’ High School. Adam Wallis netted twice and new recruit Shane-Lee Jenkins scored his opening goal of the competition. However, by 2.00pm the pitches resembled lakes and the match against Rotorua Boys’ High School was abandoned after 15 minutes, with both teams awarded one point.

1st XI Footballers Win Referee's Cup

The HBHS 1st XI Football team (pictured right, after their victory in the final) have won the Referee's Cup, defeating Cambridge High School's 1st XI in the final with a score of 3 - 0.  The tournament was played in the opening weekend of the winter sports season at St Peter's School in what were perfect conditions to kick off the various 2013 competitions.  Paul Clout scored two goals in the final, with the third being added by Blair Bates.  Congratulations to the team on starting their season so well, and thanks and congratulations to coaches Mr Paul Nixon and Mr Aaron Scott, and manager Mr Stuart Hakeney

1st XV Rugby vs Gisborne High School

The Hamilton Boys’ High School 1st XV rugby team take on last year's Super 8 champions Gisborne Boys’ High School in a game that could decide this year’s winner.  HBHS presently sit at the top of the competition, and will win this year’s Super 8 competition with a round remaining, if they can secure a win.


The team is hoping for a large home crowd to support their endeavours, in a game which will be televised live on Sky Sport.
All present and past students, parents and supporters are asked to don the school colours and get down to school this Saturday afternoon for a 2.30pm kick-off.  There is also a special prize for the winner of the competition for the best banner.

1st XV vs Wesley College on Saturday

An open invitation is being extended to all students, Old Boys and friends of HBHS to attend a televised rugby game with Wesley College at Saturday 2.30pm.  We are playing Wesley, who have a very vocal and supportive home crowd, on their own grounds. 

The 1st XV would welcome the support of our school community at this high-stakes game, and would be really pleased to see folks wearing school colours and ringing cowbells.

1st XV win Super 8 for 4th Consecutive Time

On Saturday the 1st XV completed their recent dominance of the Secondary Schools’ Super 8 competition and retained the Moascar Cup by defeating Hastings Boys 57 – 8 at Hamilton. Hooker Sefo Setefano scored three tries and was a dominant force in the match. Equally impressive was the kicking and general play of 1st 5 Nathan George who kicked 6 conversions, several from the sideline into the wind. Up 35 -3 at halftime, the young Hamilton side utilized their entire bench in the 2nd half and still managed to score regularly.  Adam Tolua was all aggression at No. 8 and scored twice.
