2011 HBHS Powhiri
Over five hundred new members of Hamilton Boys' High School were welcomed into our family this morning. Year 9s and new staff were called on to the grounds and recognised by current Year 13s, teaching faculty and the senior management team. The rights and responsibilities of our new students were explained by the Headmaster, Mrs Hassall, as well as the role they play as the future of the school. The Year 13s performed a rousing haka (click on the attached link) and modelled the decorum and high standards of personal presentation expected from school leaders.
The parents of Year 9 students shared morning tea with staff after the powhiri, whie their sons were provided with orientation tours and introductory activities by their tutor teachers and the Year 13s. All Year 13 students are currently being considered for leadership roles, including prefect positions. They will leave for Leadership Camp tomorrow, and take this final opportunity to show staff and their peers the qualities that set them apart. We look forward to the announcement of these positions, and the continued smooth settling-in of our newest members, with great anticipation.
