2012 Mountain Biking Results
The 2012 Mountain Biking Championships were held in Levin in late March. The HBHS team travelled sown and came away with some very pleasing results. There were three events - cross country, downhill racing and the hill climb.
Over the three events, Nick Boning came 27th in the U19, while Sam Keeling gained 28th, Ben Stocker 18th and Zach Medich 13th, in the U15 competition.
Sam Gaze rode the best placings overall; third in the downhill, fourth in the hill climb after a broken chain and first in the cross country by 12 seconds, making him second overall in the U19s.

The North Island Secondary School Wrestling Championships were held at Katikati College on Wednesday, 21 March. Thirteen wrestlers represented HBHS, with several others excluded through injury or other school commitments.
Even though there were fewer entrants in total than there were in attendance at the Auckland Secondary School Championships the previous week, the standard of wrestling was higher. It was a tough day on the mat for our team, with only four medals won. Jordan Marshall emerged as our only 2012 North Island Secondary School champion, winning gold in the Junior 63 kg class. Jordan is wrestling confidently and was easily our best wrestler on the day. Other HBHS medalists were Caleb Wallbank, Cameron Quertier and Kendall Heke, who all won silver in their respective classes. In the team standings, HBHS finished second to overall winners Dilworth School.
On the day I received compliments separately from Wrestling NZ President, Andrew Roach and National Cadet (14-16 years) Coach, Darcy Dunlop, on the team’s raw talent and athleticism.
Pete Pouri-Lane
