Dear Parents and Caregivers
Each year the Parents’ Association hosts a morning tea for the teaching and support staff, on your behalf. It is a chance for all of us to thank the hard working people at our school and is hugely appreciated by staff. To make the event a success we need donations of morning tea items from you.
The morning tea will be held on Wednesday 21st June and food items can be delivered to the school reception or staff room from 8am that morning. Items you could supply include homemade (or bought) cakes, slices, biscuits, sausage rolls, sandwiches, sushi, savouries or fruit.
To make this event special and show our appreciation your donations are essential.
Thank you so much for your contributions.

Dear Parents,
To minimise disruption to the school HBHS has approved Field Days leave for those wishing to attend on Friday 16 June only; students will attend class as normal 12 – 15 June. This policy allows students and the school to effectively operate normal classes and study during the week preceding.
The school will remain open on Friday 16 June and supervision will be provided for students who wish to attend. Students attending school should report to the library at 8.45am with their school work.
We appreciate your support in allowing us to maintain an academic programme during a very busy week in the Waikato.
Yours faithfully
Graham Robinson

Please do not drive into the school grounds between 8am – 4pm, to drop off and pick up your sons.
Students must walk into and out of the school. This is a Health & Safety issue for the school.
Boys can be dropped off or picked up on one of the numerous access streets to the school. Peachgrove Rd is itself now becoming so congested that it is dangerous at peak times to stop near our entrance, so your willingness to pick up/drop off further away is appreciated.

We have another opportunity to send ten Year 10 students on an amazing five day voyage on the tall ship, the ‘Spirit of New Zealand.’
Boarding: Sunday 25th June 1630
Returning: Friday 30th June 1600
Cost $850 per student.
Students need to be good citizens and must be able to swim 100m.
Medical/permission forms must be completed once students are accepted.
We are looking for students who are prepared to work as a team, follow instructions and treat students from other schools with respect. On each voyage, four schools compete for a ‘Spirit Trophy.’ Boys will be accompanied by a staff member.
Parents are responsible for transporting students to and from the boat.
Students or parents should see or e-mail me with expressions of interest by Friday 26th May. If possible, some background information on why you are keen to go would be appreciated, (not essential).
Please check your calendars carefully. Trips/refunds can be jeopardised if people pull out at the last minute.
Kind regards

Year 13 students are responsible for the initial application and have been given the forms necessary. This is for your information only and allows you/him to download extra copies for his use.
The process for producing Year 13 Testimonials for 2017 has begun. Year 13 Testimonials are a character and academic reference that are written by tutor teachers for the Year 13 students. The Testimonials are useful for scholarship and job applications and are also presented to students at Senior Prize-giving summarising their HBHS career. They are considered a very important document that we take pride in producing for our graduating senior students.
Part of the process involved in preparing these documents demands that Year 13 students provide relevant staff with information about themselves by specified deadlines.
Please read the information below. All relevant forms related to testimonials have been issued to Year 13s through their tutor groups. If hard-copies have been misplaced there are spare copies of forms at the Student Services Centre and students can also print off their own forms from the attached files.
There is one form all Year 13s must receive, fill out and return by FRIDAY 9 JUNE. This is the Testimonial Application Form attached.
The extra form, the Referee Form, must be provided to two staff members who, upon being asked in person, have agreed to be referees for a student. These two teachers per. Year 13 student write character references that will assist tutor group teachers in the drafting of student testimonials.
Students need to ensure that all Testimonial Application Forms are submitted to the Student Services Centre by 12.30 on FRIDAY 9 JUNE - Week 6, Term 2
Please ensure that teachers acting as referees have agreed in person and have been provided a referee’s form asap.
Failure to meet deadlines jeopardises testimonial completion. If there are complications in meeting the specified deadline, please contact myself on 07 853 0440 ext. 2423 or cwood@hbhs.school.nz
