Father and Son Breakfast
HBHS welcomed more than 200 Year 9 students and their fathers, male caregivers or mentors this morning for the annual Father and Son Breakfast. This wonderful occasion featured live music, a full cooked meal (thanks to Kerr & Ladbrook Catering, Blakes Hire Company) and special guest speakers Brent Arnel and Old Boy BJ Watling.
BJ made time for an interview and autographed shirts and programmes for students (and some dads.)
What were the highlights of your school sporting experience?
The Gillette Cup wins in 2002 and 2003.
When did you realise you were going to reach elite status? What sort of things did you do to make that happen?
When I got Gillette Cup player of the year and started scoring a lot of runs - from then on I felt a passionate drive to move up. I managed to make the New Zealand Under 19s, which was a big stepping stone for me, and then gradually I built up through the New Zealand Academy. Then I went straight through to the Knights. It all happened pretty quickly after the initial step. Definitely, that first experience of recognition at the Gillette Cup - that's where I got my drive from.

HBHS Cricketers have been notcing up some pretty impressive statistics this summer, and last weekend Year 9 student Josh Glass, pictured right, playing for the Year 9 Maroon Team took 6 wickets for 15 runs playing against Te Aroha. What makes this statistic even more impressive, is the fact that Josh took 5 of these wickets in a row, a near double hat-trick! Congratulations to Josh on this accomplishment, and we will be keeping an eye on him as the 2014 summer season continues.

Hamilton Boys' High Scool capped off another wonderful season on Saturday with a clean sweep of the Waikato Secondary Schools Knockout Cup finals. The day started with a win to the HBHS Junior Gold team in the junior B division, edging out the HBHS Junior Black boy 1-0. This was followed by another "all-HBHS encounter", when in the senior B final HBHS Scarlet defeated HBHS Silver 1-0, courtesy of a Thomas Clayton long-range strike late in the game. The Scarlet-Silver contest in Senior Dvision 1 has been a close run affair all season, and the cup final certainly lived up to the pre-game hype, with end to end football throughout the 80 minutes.

Jackson Ruffley (Year 10, pictured right), Issac Nicholson (Year 10), Dominick Edwards (Year 10) and Nephi Harrison (Year 10, pictured left) have all be selected for the New Zealand Under 15 side to play Singapore and Malaysia next week. Each student was drawn for the 2010 HBHS Colts. This team, coached by Paul Nixon, played the recent season without dropping a point, securing them both the Knockout Cup and the League title.
We are delighted that the boys will get the opportunity to demonstrate their skills on an international stage. This will be the second foray beyond New Zealand during 2010 for Dominick Edwards, who was in the UK throughout August. He travelled to some of the most important football hubs in England, and had the opportunity to trial at Barnesley and Huddersfield as a future scholarship prospect. We wish each of the boys well, and will report on their progress once the competition starts.
If you would like to help towards the costs associated with this trip, there will be a
