Scott Creighton, Champion Cyclist

17th May 2011, 8:59am

Scott Creighton has gone from strength to strength in the New Zealand cycling fraternity. HBHS interviewed him about his progress:

How did you become involved in cycling?

I started with triathlons. I competed in a National competition in 2007 and cleaned up in the cycling leg. A spectator mentioned that I should do a tour, so I entered in the Te Awamutu Tour and came 12th on no training. I haven’t really looked back from there.

What has this year involved for you in terms of cycling?

I’ve been selected to go to the Junior World Competition in Moscow, on the track, so I’m training for that at the moment.

Scott Creighton, National Cycling Champion

5th Aug 2010, 11:54am

Scott Creighton (Yr 12) recently returned to New Zealand after assisting the Under 19 Men’s Road Cycling Team to win the Nations Cup title at the Tour de L’Abitibi in Canada.  He finished eighth in a field of more than 100 riders, in a competition which is modeled on cycling races like the Tour de France.  Creighton raced over six days in the seven-stage event.  He was surprised and delighted that his results were able to make a crucial different to his team’s performance.

What is Road Cycling?

‘Road cycling’ is a term usually applied to events where competing riders start at the same time (unless riding a handicap event) with the winner being the first to the line at the end of the course (individual and team time trials are another form of cycle racing on roads).

Scuba Day

5th Dec 2012, 12:30pm

Four DTR classes assembled by the school pool on Friday to enjoy a day of instruction on scuba diving. Successful DTR students are considered for the Outdoor Education programme in Year 11, so a number of highly motivated boys are interested in this option. Five stations were set up by the private training provider, including navigation, theory, snorkelling, setting up the gear and scuba diving itself.

Scuba day is a high interest end-of-year activity. It provides the boys with a sense of what might be involved in pursuing scuba diving, and puts them in contact with instructors that they can work with if they wish to learn to dive, later.

Season defining weekend for top rugby teams

7th Aug 2013, 9:43am

This weekend is shaping up to be one of the most important ones this year for the top three HBHS rugby teams, and all of the games will be played at home.  First up at 10.30am on Field 2, the 2nd XV will be looking to secure the Super 8 title as they face Hastings Boys' High School in their final round of competition.  Then at 11am on the Number 1 field, the 3rd XV will be looking to make the finals of the Waikato Division 1 1st XV competition as they take on Matamata College.  Finally, immediately following the completion of that match, the HBHS 1st XV will wrap up the Super 8 competition and put the Moascar Cup on the line against Hastings Boys' High School 1st XV.  This is a huge weekend for our top three teams and we are fortunate to have all three games here so all of the players would love to see as many HBHS supporters in red and black on the side lines to cheer them on.  Go teams!
