HBHS Tennis in National Competition

8th Mar 2011, 7:53am

Last Thursday at the Waikato Tennis Centre the Senior Boys’ Tennis team won their way through to the Tennis Nationals and will represent the Tennis Waikato-Bays Region along with St. Peters from Cambridge.

The team played Napier Boys’ High School in the morning and put in a consistent team performance, winning the match 6-0. This meant that a win in the afternoon game against Tauranga Boys’ would guarantee a place at the Nationals. Although Adam Gage-Brown lost the No.1 singles match, Jake McCartney, Matthew Sheedy and James Southon all won their games, giving the team a 3-1 lead, heading into the doubles. The team only needed to win a set to qualify and this was achieved by Adam Gage-Brown, who teamed up with James Southon. Taylor McGuire and Jake McCartney also produced a sound doubles performance.

The team will represent the school for first time in the nationals to be held in Albany, March 28th-31st.
