HBHS Students Medal in World Shooting Championships
Congratulations to Year 11 student Bradley Parrott (pictured, left) and Year 13 student David Pearson, who competed last week in the World Down the Line (DTL) Shooting Championships held at the Waikato Gun Club. Bradley won a silver medal in the C Grade and David won bronze in the B grade and we proudly acknowledge them for performing so well on the world stage. Thanks to Mr Duncan Parrott for the coverage and photography.
Thank you to those HBHS family members who keep us up-to-date with all of the wonderful things that our students, past and present, accomplish. Contact Publications Manager Ms Wendy Moffitt wmoffitt@hbhs.school.nz with "High Achiever" in the subject line, and make sure your story is told!

Two Hamilton Boys' High School students have received 'top in country' marks in the most recent round of Cambridge International Examinations. Alistair Lockley (pictured) and Thomas Simpson are to be congratulated for their respective achievements in Co-ordinated Sciences and Economics. Both boys were among several HBHS students who recieved 100% percent grades in their subjects; because CIE is scaled in bands of 10, Alistair and Thomas achieved the strongest results from this group, and across New Zealand. We are very pleased with the number of the Boys' High students who participated in Cambridge as well as NCEA during 2010 - your results do you credit.

Takiri Southon (Year 13) won the regional prize for top musicianship and a chance at a $4,000 scholarship after a superb performance at the Smokefreerockquest at Founders' Theatre in Hamilton last night. 30 HBHS students performed in total, with I and I, Shangzhou, Seas of Conflict and Three Peso Thrills being selected for the national final. I and I placed second in the Waikato, and Music teacher Adrian Botting was delighted with the high proportion of bands (four out of seven) that are now through to the next phase of the competition. Smokefreerockquest 2010 was won by The Good Fun (pictured, right) with Leroy Clampitt, HBHS 2010 Captain of Music.
Smokefreerockquest 2011 has just one regional event to go, in Christchurch on August 6 and 7. Since mid May over 800 bands have competed in 27 regional finals. The top six bands will play off at the national final, to be held this year in the new 5000-seat Claudelands Arena in Hamilton on 17 September.
