Auckland SS Wrestling Championships
HBHS' wrestling team travelled to Dilworth School to compete in the 2012 Auckland Secondary Schools Wrestling Championships on Tuesday, 13 March 2012. The team of 19 included ten novices who were competing in their very first tournament. In a long day of spirited competition, which started with Teo Pouri-Lane competing in the first match of the day and Matiu Pouri-Lane competing in the final match of the tournament, HBHS walked away with 14 medals (including 6 Gold, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze).
Outstanding performers included novice wrestlers Wade McLean-Te Huia, Gold medallist in the Senior 120 kg class and Kendall Heke who pushed a 2012 Oceania Champion medallist hard, before succumbing in the final of the Senior 85 kg class to take Silver. Overall our wrestlers performed well on the mat and this was reflected in the team’s results with HBHS placing first and earning the title of Champion School at the 2012 Auckland Secondary School Wrestling Championships.
