The HBHS 1st XI plays as a school team in the New Zealand Super 8 Competition, in January to start each school year and in 2018 the team won the Super 8 title. In Summer Tournament Week, the Northern District Association holds its Secondary school Competition at which HBHS have been finalists since this change of qualification to the Gillette Cup. In February, 1st XI and 2nd XI teams along with a select Year 10 Colts team participate in an exchange with NPBHS.
1st XI and 2nd XI players then participate in the Hamilton Cricket Association in the Men's Premier and Senior A Divisions, respectively. A Development XI compete in the HCA Secondary Schools Division 1 against local schools 1st XI sides, with an Emerging XI competing in Division 2 A. The 5th XI and any other sides compete in Division 2A or 2B according to ability.
Year 10 and Year 9 Colts sides are selected and play in the HCA Colts Division. It is our school policy to select four even teams, with two from each Year level. In addition, a Year 9 team is selected for the NZCT Hamilton Regional competition in Term 4 and continues as a select Year 10 Colts team in that competition in the following year.
Junior teams are placed in the HCA Year 10 and Year 9 Premier Competitions in Term 1 and Term 4 and there is a clear pathway for players through their time at HBHS.
