World Challenge to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands
Want to see where the theory of evolution was born? Or maybe you want to climb a glacier on a 19 000ft volcano? Even better, how do you feel about planning the entire trip (and we mean the entire trip) with your tour group members once you land in the Ecuadorian capital of Quito? At yesterdays’ middle school assembly, World Challenge representative Ms Ellen Donnelly presented students with the opportunity to do all of this and more, should they become members of the HBHS Ecuador and Galapagos Islands scheduled to depart next year. A World Challenge experience has four phases, Acclimatisation, Trekking, Project and finally Relax and Recreation. Acclimatisation gives tour group members time to get used to their surroundings and plan every aspect of the upcoming trip. The Trekking phase is exactly what it sounds like – a chance to embark upon a 5 – 10 day adventure throughout the extraordinary Ecuadorian mountains. The Project phase is where group members give back to the country they are visiting by working for schools, orphanages and the underprivileged, teaching English or building much-needed facilities. Finally, the Relax and Recreation phase, where group members are given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit the incredible Galapagos Islands, made famous by the likes of Charles Darwin and Sir David Attenborough. If this sounds like you, then talk to Mr Hemi Coates, visit the website at www.worldchallenge.co.nz or come along to the information evening on Tuesday 11 June at 6.30pm in the HBHS Staffroom. See you there!
