Warren Gatland visits HBHS

HBHS Old Boy, Coach of the Welsh National Rugby Team, and now series-winning Coach of the British and Irish Lions, Mr Warren Gatland visited HBHS today as part of our Leadership Fortnight which will be profiled in future posts and publications. Mr Gatland spoke first to the Captains of Sporting Codes and members of the AS Physical Education class on what makes for an effective leader, how to manage challenging situations and have those dreaded difficult conversations, and on what it takes to keep the Lions "machine" (as he called it) working so well. He then shifted venue and audience and spoke to the school and the staff in the Hall at interval (pictured right).  The audience learned that being prepared to be a team player is paramount to Mr Gatland, and that truly effective leaders set high expectations and standards so that others can follow.  Not everyone is going to agree with your decisions, but that is all part of being a leader, having the team goals as your highest priorities.  For more on Leadership fortnight, stayed tuned!
