Two on Top of the World

HBHS students have certainly been making their mark at a global level over the past few years, and the 2013 IGCSE results have served up not one, but two world-beaters, and they're not even in Year 13 yet! Christopher Mayo (pictured, left) and Soumil Singh (pictured, right) have scored top of the world in one subject each, and Soumil has also topped New Zealand overall across all of his subjects. What makes Christopher's results even more extraordinary is that he was invited to sit IGCSE as a Year 10 student (a full year early), and achieved a mark of 99% in Mathematics and 97% in Co-ordinated Science, with his Science mark earning him a first in the world award. Soumil notched up a collection of marks in the late nineties which were as follows: 96% in Science, 97% in three subjects, Economics, English Literature and Geography, and 99% in Mathematics. He was placed first in New Zealand for best overall in five subjects, first in New Zealand for Economics, and first in the world for Geography. We would like to congratulate these students on their exceptional accomplishments, and congratulate and thank their very proud families for all of their efforts and support.  Christopher and Soumil were acknowledged and celebrated at our first full school assembly, and will be profiled in the Term 1 edition of The High Achiever.  We very much look forward to seeing what these two talented academics will do next and we wish them every success in their studies this year.  Thanks to Chris Hillock at the Waikato Times for the photography.
