Training for the World Geography Olympiad
The next International Geography Olympiad will be in held in Cologne in Germany. Scott Cameron and Brent Coleman (who were part of the National Title winning Maatangi Whenua team from 2010) have been selected to attend a training camp in Wellington for this event in early December. They will be part of an elite group of students who will receive intensive training in all things geographical. From this group the final group of students will be selected to represent New Zealand. We wish them every success in this venture.
The 2012 Olympiad will begin on August 21 and end on August 26. The local organisers will host 30 teams from around the world. The competition will test many different aspects of geographical knowledge through written tests, and multimedia tests. The students also experience a fieldwork excursion.
