The 2015 Term 1 Golf Report

The 31st of March was a big day on the golfing calendar, with the first ever exchange between HBHS and St Peter's School in Cambridge, who replaced Westlake Boys' High School who were unable to attend.  St Peter's were missing a number of their top golfers, but with their very strong golf programme they were still able to field an excellent team.  Our revised top team finally played to their potential and finished with a team score of 1 under (the best 3 of 4 scores are counted) which was 19 shots ahead of the opposition.  Tyler Wood shot a 3 under 69 and Sam McGovern and James Fellows-Ford both shot 72.  This was an excellent confidence boost for our team.

Later that day the team played their final round of summer league, and were going into this 9 shots behind St Peter's.  The teams are made up of 4 players with the best 3 rounds counted after 9 holes.  Sam Brinkworth shot a 2 under 34, Sam McGovern shot 36 and James Fellows-Ford shot 37.  This was a final team total of 10 under which gave the gross competition win to HBHS for the first time since 2004.  The HBHS Number 2 team claimed the best net score competition, with two players scoring 32.  This team consisted of Tyler Wood, Matt Davis, Isaac Butcher and Keenan Membery.  I am very proud to be the Teacher in Charge of Golf with such a fine group of golfers and we hope that we can maintain this standard of play heading into the Waikato Championships to be held on May 11.
