Te Maurea Whiritoi 2012

Te Maurea Whiritoi whanau hosted a powhiri on behalf of Hamilton Boys' and Girls' High schools at Kirikiriroa marae on 24 March 2012. The purpose was to; welcome our new rangatahi and whanau, coming together as one roopu, reinforcing tikanga by coming onto the marae we call home.

The day started with a haka powhiri, a protocol used to bring an ope (group) on, creating a safe passage for our new rangatahi and their whanau. We had a total of 121 people attend. Following this, there was a beautiful kai häkari we all shared and enjoyed, while the 2011 roopu entertained the visitors.

During the day, the whanau were given a history of the name Te Maurea Whiritoi and the t-shirt design. Both principals took the opportunity to address the whanau. The whanau were introduced to the tutors and the teachers in charge. They explained their roles and responsibilities.
