Super Weekend for HBHS Golfers
It started on Friday 24 February when golf captain James Fellows-Ford (Year 13) won the best junior in the Brian Perry Open to collect $1000 in prize-money. James then joined up with other HBHS golfers including Tyler Wood (Year 13), Michael Jones (Year 13) and Luke Kidd (Year 11) to compete in the Super 8 Golf Competition in Gisborne. This was going to be the last chance for James, Tyler and Michael to get the school’s name engraved on this trophy as HBHS has not won this trophy since 2012. After Round 1 and 2 we took a nine shot lead into the final round. Luke and Michael both really struggled and could only post rounds of 81 apiece, so seeing as we had to count the best three scores we had to take one 81. James finished with a solid 75 and with scores of 76 and 73, he finished third overall. Tyler Wood, who celebrated his 17th birthday on the Tuesday, shot the round of the tournament with a three-under 69 to claim the best individual prize and ensure HBHS claimed the Super 8 shield. Team 2, which consisted of Sam Brinkworth (Year 13), Logan Madden (Year 11), Leo Ko (Year 11) and Oliver Leen (Year 10) competed in the Stableford. Logan was the star scoring 36 points or better in each round and scoring lower than two boys in the top side in the last round. So HBHS claimed all available trophies up for grabs. It was well worth the 750km of driving, 60000 steps and 500 texts keeping parents and teachers informed of progress for Manager Mr Cooley who was so proud of the boys he has worked with since they were in Year 9.
