Super 8 Golf 2016

Going into this year's Super 8 competition, the HBHS team was highly ranked and expected to do well.  The golfers were coming off some strong performances in local competitions and had the lowest combined team handicap.  After the first round the team was only 6 shots off the lead, with Tyler Wood shooting the best with a 1 over par 73.  The second round, however, saw the HBHS team in some trouble.  Balls were lost, shots went out of bounds  and a poor all-round short game proved costly with all team members shooting over 80.  The team tried to make up ground in the final round but the control, course management and overall performances were just not there and the team finished in a very disappointing 6th place.  The second team had a much better day out as they played in a Stableford competition which requires players to play to their handicap.  The team led from the first round and outshone all other schools to take out the Division Two competition.  Two of the boys played so well they have been promoted to the top team to play in the Foundation Cup on March 15.  Bodie Hodges, who also finds time to play for the 1st XI Cricket team, shot three rounds in the 70's to be the most consistent golfer, and Luke Kidd, a Year 10 student and the current HBHS Junior Champion, shot a 74 and a 75 that would have been very much appreciated in the top competition.  Luke also has a two-shot lead in the HBHS Senior competition.  I hope this pressure inspires the top team to lift their performance and play a more consistent game.
