Super 8 Cross Country 2016

On Monday 30 May, 28 boys travelled down to New Plymouth for the 2016 Super 8 Cross Country competition that was raced on a very tough and challenging course, with lots of hills and mud. Luckily the weather was good, and we had a warm morning of racing.  Unfortunately HBHS was not able to retain the Super 8 trophy for a fourth year, but the boys performed really well in conditions that were a lot tougher than most would have had to run in previously.  New Plymouth Boys’ High School took out the title on their home course, with Palmerston North Boys’ High School finishing second and HBHS third.  Our Year 9 team ran exceptionally well, winning the team’s race for that grade and it will be exciting to see that team progressing over the next few years. The Senior team was unlucky in being beaten into second place by only 2 points.  Isaiah Priddey (Year 12) ran very well to win the Senior Super 8 title, beating a fellow World Championship team member and local Year 13 running for New Plymouth. These two runners exemplify the quality of runners in the Super 8 competition.

Top results from our individuals were:

Senior Boys: Isaiah Priddey 1st, Bradley Cullen 4th, Sam Montgomerie 7th, Connor Tristram 10th.

Year 9 Boys: Kalyan Gujju 4th, Blake Wisnewski 5th, Ollie Foote 6th
