Super 8 Chess Results

Included as one of the Super 8 Cultural events for the first time this year, the Super 8 Chess Tournament took place in New Plymouth over the weekend of 25 and 26 May. The double round robin format saw each of the participating teams facing each of the others twice, once with each colour.

Our young team of Eushin Kang (Year 11), Michael Lin (Year 9) Joel Crombie (Year 10) and Nathanael Loy (Year 9) played exceptionally well to be placed first with 5½ match points from 6. Palmerston North was placed 2nd on 4 points.

Highlights of the weekend included our team’s 4-0 win over Palmerston North, Eushin’s brilliant game in that match, the three Board prizes won by Michael, Joel and Nathanael and the 100% scores by Michael and Nathanael over the course of the whole tournament.

Congratulations to the team on an excellent performance.
