Sports Results Update
The Year 10 formal assembly gave us the opportunity to celebrate some of our recent sporting successes, and there are some very impressive results obtained by HBHS students this year. On the 13th and 14th of January, our open water swimmers braved Lake Taupo's waters to compete in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Open Water Championships and secured the title of top boys' school overall. This was courtesy of Dominic Fawkner (Year 9) winning two gold medals, in the 12 - 13 years Epic 2.5km and the Epic 5km swim, Jaxyn Mihaka (Year 12) with gold in the 16 - 18 years Epic 2.5km, Ciaran Watson (Year 10) with a silver in the 12 - 13 years Epic 1km and a bronze in the Epic 5km, and Danyon Hardie (Year 13) with bronze in the 16 - 18 years Epic 5km swim. We also congratulate our Futsal team on winning the Hillcrest High School Competition, the Waikato Bay of Plenty Secondary Schools League and the Waikato Bay of Plenty Secondary Schools Division. Further to our story last week, our Rowing crews were congratulated for their medals at the New Zealand Club Championships, with gold medals won by the Club Four, the Under 19 Four and the Club 8, silver medals for the Novice Eight (Crew 2), the Senior Eight, the Club Pair and the Club 8 (Crew 2) and a bronze medal for the Senior Coxless Four. Congratulations once more to our athletes on their fine efforts in what has been an excellent start to our summer sporting year.
