Spirit Week, School Singing and the Haka Competition
The new school gymnasium rang yesterday with the sweet sounds of the annual House Singing Contest. Each House sang an arrangement of prepared songs, while Mr Bryan Bevage (who taught singing at HBHS for many years) and Mr Jamie Strange (HBHS Old Boy and current student teacher) judged the competition.

The main challenge for all comers as well as the Music staff was finding a balance between the singing and the backing tracks. The acoustics of the Gym are a great improvement upon holding the contest outside, and it’s a huge relief that we no longer have to cancel this event every time the rain threatens.
Other events during Spirit Week have included a Staff/Student Quiz on Monday (the staff won, resoundingly), Obstacle Courses, a Staff/Student Soccer match (Staff 3, Students 0 – with 14 student players on the field by the end of the second half), Dance and Music performances, ‘The Great Shave’ Fundraiser and a general sense of anticipation; Spring is on it’s way.
