Sam Franicevic, 'Search for the Stars' National Winner
Sam Franicevic (Year 10) has won the 'Search For the Stars' National Final. The mature and self-possessed guitarist presented two pieces in a split final held in Hamilton and Auckland over two consecutive nights. He won the Open category as well as the overall prize of a $500 Farmers Voucher and a Search for the Stars trophy. He played a tapping piece called ‘Air Tap’ and a composition of his own.
Sam has been playing the acoustic guitar for five years, and steel string for the last 12 months. He feels that he has benefited greatly from his tuition with HBHS tutor Peter Skandera, who lent Sam the guitar with which he won the competition. Sam’s musical goals include convening a band, and (given his success to date) exploring some of the different options available to professional musicians here in New Zealand and overseas.
Sam wanted to take this opportunity to thank Peter Skandera, and Takiri Southon, who drummed during the prize-winning performance. Their support is greatly appreciated.
