National and International Honours for HBHS students past and present

Whilst we were enjoying the April school holiday break, HBHS students and old boys were busy making news headlines both nationally and internationally. We would like to offer our congratulations to the following sportsmen on their various selections and achievements and we look forward to following their progress this year with interest.

Congratulations to Sean Maitland (pictured at right in his newest colours) on being selected as a member of the British and Irish Lions squad set to tour Australia in June. This follows his try-scoring debut for Scotland in February this year and impressive performances during the Six Nations Tournament. Sean first came to the attention of the Lions Coach Warren Gatland as an HBHS student when he was selected (whilst still at school) for the Waikato provincial rugby team. The Lions begin their tour with a match against the Barbarians in Hong Kong on June 1 and will go on to play their three tests against Australia on June 22, 29 and finally July 6.

Following on from their Maadi 2013 triumph, Ryan Rasmussen and Alex Bardoul have been selected to represent New Zealand at the 2013 World Rowing Junior Championships to be held in Lithuania in August this year as members of the Men's Coxed Four crew.

Head Prefect in 2010, Adam Burn, and fellow Old Boy Joseph Webber have been selected in the New Zealand Under 20 rugby squad set to contest the Junior World Championships in France this June.  They will begin their campaign in Vannes on June 5 with a match against Fiji.

Once again we offer our congratulations to these young men on their outstanding achievements and we look forward to covering their endeavours in the very near future.  Good luck to them all and watch this space for updates!
