Maori and Pasifika Awards Evening

The 2016 celebration of all things Māori and Pasifika at HBHS was always going to be particularly special, courtesy of the unprecedented success of the combined HBHS and HGHS Kapa Haka group Te Maurea Whiritoi at this year’s National Kapa Haka Competition.  The audience was treated to a stunning performance by the group in combination with the Māori Performing Arts class, and it got the evening off to a stirring and powerful start.  The Pasifika performance group dazzled the audience with colour, melodies and athleticism and it was a privilege to hear the reflections of guest speaker and Member of Parliament for Hauraki-Waikato Nanaia Mahuta.  We celebrated all that our Māori and Pasifika students had achieved in their academic, cultural, service and sporting endeavours, and present the award winners with pride.
