Many Medals for HBHS Swimmers
HBHS excelled at the recent NZ Short Course Championships (25m SCM), held during the first week of the school holidays in Wellington, 30/9 - 4/10/2012.
Fairfield swim club had a group of 18 swimmers attend the NZ Short Course Championships in Wellington. There were some fantastic results throughout the meet. HBHS was well represented by Carter Edgecombe, Leon Arcus, Jesse Reynolds, Josh Ion, Nathan Edwards, Ashley Townsend, Sean Haisley, Angus Campbell, Tyler Ellis, Nathan Edwards, Leyton Bradford, and Connor Egan.
Jesse Reynolds secured 6 Gold medals and breaking 4 current Paralympic NZ records in the S9 classification. This included smashing his current 400 free record by 8 seconds to 4:35.51 and his 200 Individual medley by 6 seconds to 2:33.30. These results now allow Jesse to qualify for the World Short course (multi-class) Champs in Canada in 2013.
Carter Edgecombe also had an excellent swim in the 1500mt Freestyle with a time of 15:41.99 . This earns him a spot in the Swim NZ team to attend the Australian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF) in Sydney, January 2013. The festival is an international multi-sport competition, with over 2000 athletes competing across seventeen different sports.
It was an exciting event to watch with so many of NZ's top swimmers being represented. The Fairfield swim club came 7th over-all from 64 clubs competing. This was a great achievement by everyone who participated.
