Luke Annan receives Waipa Tennis Award
Year 12 Luke Annan has taken out the Waipa Tennis Academy Junior Sportsperson of the Year Award. The 16-year-old Te Awamutu Melville Cup teacm member went through the interclub season unbeaten in all of his singles matches playing at No. 2 - helping his team to become joint winners of the cup with Otoro hanga.
Annan becomes the twelfth recipient of the Quentin Wallace Trophy. In presenting the award to Annan, Wallace commented that the teenager had not only impressed him as a player, but also by encouraging the younger members of his team. "Luke has proven to be a responsible person and player, always well mannered and courteous, on and off the court."
Annan was runner-up in the under-16 boys' section of the Te Awamutu Sub Association junior tournament in November. The Hamilton Boys' High School student's other sporting interests are squash and rugby.
