Kia Ora and Welcome to the Class of 2014

This morning as the school year officially begins, the HBHS staff and Year 13 students welcomed over 500 newly minted Year 9 students, along with new students at all other levels and recently appointed staff members.  These newest members of our HBHS family were formally welcomed in a traditional powhiri which acknowledged their importance in the continued success of HBHS, along with the efforts of those who have gone before them.  Headmaster Mrs Susan Hassall thanked the students for choosing this school and exhorted the students to make the most of all of the opportunities they will receive.  Finally, the Year 13 students, pictured at right, greeted the Year 9 group, as previous years had done for them, with the rousing school haka, which the Year 9s were then taught as part of the afternoon’s activities.  The day concluded with a range of sports and games.

Classes for Year 9 and Year 10 students begin tomorrow, and the Year 13 students depart for Leadership Camp which will be profiled in the Term 1 edition of the High Achiever. We would like to remind each student that they need to purchase the 2014 School Diary from the School Shop.  This essential item contains all of the upcoming events, along with the guidelines and rules that govern every aspect of school life.  For a full list of starting dates, click on the Beginning Dates information in the Latest News.
