Inline Hockey at HBHS
Inline hockey is not for the faint hearted. This sport not only tests one’s physical co-ordination but mental preparation is compulsory. On a typical Thursday evening, you will see boys flying past on their skates and getting plowed over on the rink at Dey Street.
Our first league in Term One was very successful. HBHS Shake’n Bake had a tough final match but they fought until the end and obtain second place in A grade. In B grade, HBHS Snipers came face-to-face against HBHS White in the finals. With the third place trophy up for grabs, the boys knew a win for their team was crucial. HBHS Snipers overcame a tight tussle to prove themselves a better team on the day. It was down to HBHS Patriots in the C grade to secure Hamilton Boys’ High School a first place trophy to complete our set. The team stepped up to the challenge and ended the league season on a high. This is not to forget our less experienced members of the HBHS Noodle Squad, who have come so far from the beginning of the year. Their team spirits are always high and you can see the enjoyment on their faces. A new addition to Term Two’s league is HBHS Extreme. This team is comprised of boys mostly from the hostel and willing novices.
We were privileged this term to have the boys from New Plymouth come up for a playoff. The boys knew that this was going to be a challenging exchange but persevered against an impressive lineup. There were many instances of great defense and the boys should be proud of their performance.
Thanks to parents who have supported the boys as managers and enthusiastic spectators. Congratulations to those selected for the Secondary School Nationals in Auckland this July. We wish them all the best!
