Harley Davidson comes to HBHS
Seven magnificent (and much loved) Harley Davidson motorbikes rode on to HBHS grounds at 12.00 noon today. Film and TV students were waiting with cameras poised to collect as much footage as possible of the ride-through. Many students and staff stopped and admired the bikes while their owners joined staff for a cup of tea and a chance to reflect on our joint project – a student directed and filmed DVD of the up-coming national rally in Raglan.
HBHS Film and Television teacher Quentin West and Harley Davidson enthusiast Noel Richmond saw an opportunity to give our students a practical focus, and promote the Waikato/BOP H.O.G. (Harley Owners’ Group) Chapter at the same time. Students will work on a digital record of the National H.O.G. Rally to be held in Raglan in February 2011. The students are understandably excited about the opportunity to develop a product which not only meets a specific demand, but also gives them the opportunity to observe at close quarters these impressive machines.
H.O.G. riders come from all walks of life. The Waikato/BOP Chapter has around 250 members, including men and women from their early 20s through to septuagenarians. Contrary to the cliches associated with 'bikers', the H.O.G. group is inclusive, family-friendly and safety conscious. The riders are adamant that the mystique of their bikes is indefinable, but they are happy for our students to try to show on film just why Harleys are such iconic motorbikes.
We look forward to bringing you updates on the boys’ efforts as the project comes together.
