Haka and House Singing Competition

With a possible 18 House points on the line, the House Singing and Haka Competition held today in Gym 1 had the potential to change the entire look of the 2015 House points table.  Therefore it was game on, as the entire school gathered this morning in order to sing and perform their lungs out as a part of Spirit Week in the last week of this term.  Argyle House proved that their prep time has been used very well with a powerful and unified haka performance taking out the top spot.  The same, sadly, could not be said for their singing, as they finished in last place with Tait House taking out the singing title with a tuneful rendition of "Pokarekare Ana".  Whilst the judges deliberated, the Maori and Pasifika Performing Arts Group and the HBHS Mean No Harmony Barbershop Chorus gave the audience a much-appreciated lesson in singing and haka and then it was down to business, with staff versus prefect bragging rights at stake.  The staff were defending champions, and after Mr Sutherland beat Soumil Singh in the fine art of paper scissors rock, the prefects went first with an enthusiastic, if slightly under-rehearsed version of "Party in the USA".  However, the staff were not to be denied and they dazzled with a powerhouse performance of "Reach Out" to claim the title, and first blood, once more.  The full list of placings in the House Haka and Singing competition are as follows and we will wait with interest to see how these affect the overall positions.  Well done to all of the students on their enthusiastic participation today.
