HBHS win the Hillsdene Trophy

At the beginning of the week the HBHS Colts 10A Football team competed in the Hillsdene tournament, held in Tauranga. On the first day the team played a reasonable Tauranga side winning 3-1.  Next they faced an incredibly strong Westlake Boys’ High School side, which proved to be their toughest competition, and lost 5-0.  Up next was New Plymouth Boys’ High School, who the team had recently beaten in an exchange and did so again, winning 2-0.  The next game against Palmerston North Boys’ High School saw the same result and score.  In the final game of the day the team notched up a 12-1 win, with Harry Stoker, Josh Horsburgh and Logan Wisnewski scoring hat tricks.  This put the team into second place after the pool rounds and through to the semi-finals. The semi final was played against Kapiti Coast who were soundly beaten 4-1.  The final saw a re-match against Westlake Boys’ High School.  It was a very close, entertaining game with many opportunities for both teams but neither were able to put them away which brought about extra time and then a penalty shootout. HBHS held their nerve and eventually won 4 – 3.  The team would like to thank their coach Mr Campbell Wood, and Mr Aaron Scott for stepping in during the tournament.  The Hillsdene Trophy is now safe and secure in the HBHS cabinet once again.
