HBHS win Waikato Regional Debating Competition
Four HBHS teams took part in the Waikato Regional Debating Competition on Saturday, hosted by HBHS. Two teams from HBHS made it to the semi-finals. Shilong Yang, Sameer Mandhan and Nicholas Goodman made it to the final by beating a Sacred Heart Girls' College team while Henry Yao, Joseph Licht and Rajat Khokhar narrowly lost to a Waikato Diocesan team that they had already faced earlier that day. HBHS beat Waikato Diocesan in the final to be crowned champions.
Nicholas Goodman was awarded Best Speaker of the Competition, Best Style and made it onto the Waikato team. Henry Yao was made a reserve of the Waikato team and Joseph Licht was awarded a Highly Commended for the competition. Thanks to the Waikato NZ Schools Debating Council and Umbar Sandhu as the regional convenor, to local MPs Tim McIndoe and David Bennett for their attendance and assistance with opening the day and with Prize Giving and to Mr Aaron Kearney for hosting the day.
