HBHS win National Young Farmers Title

HBHS students James Robertson (left) and Regan Kidd (right), also known as "The Udder 2" are the 2013 National Teen Ag Young Farmers title holders. The boys prepared for the Grand Final by working hard as a team and ensured that they had practised the wide range of skills that the competition tested. The challenges included stock judging, tractor safety drills, soil sampling, farm first-aid, a mock scholarship interview and tests on how to identify diseases in animals and find the appropriate treatments. Both boys are heading for Lincoln University once they finish their time at HBHS, and both are keen to continue their involvement in the Young Farmers Programme. James is the Chairman of the HBHS Teen Ag Club, which currently has 20 paid-up members. This group meets regularly and enters agricultural competitions, along with providing volunteer service at both the A & P Show and at Fieldays. HBHS is the first school in the North Island to ever win the national Teen Ag competition. Congratulations to James and Regan on their achievement, and thanks to the Young Farmers website for the photograph of our latest national champions.
