HBHS win Condor Sevens title
In what has been a very good weekend for Waikato Secondary Schools sport, the HBHS Sevens team has won the New Zealand Secondary Schools, or Condor Sevens title, after beating Hastings Boys' High School 24 - 0 in the final. Our team won through pool play defeating Tauranga Boys' College 27 - 5 and Nelson College 34 - 0. In their Top 16 match they saw off St Pats Silverstream 31 - 17 and then won their quarter-final against Kelston Boys' High School 22 - 12. In what must have been a very satisfying result after this year's Chiefs Cup, the HBHS side thumped Rotorua Boys' High School 42 - 12 in the semi-final to set up the final against Hastings Boys' High School. This is the first time in seven years that HBHS has won this title and it was a double triumph for Hamilton schools, with HGHS taking out the Girls competition. HBHS Senior Sportsman of the Year Sevu Reece was named as the Tournament MVP, and was selected for the Tournament Team, along with Josef Meek. Congratulations to our new New Zealand Champions, and thanks and congratulations to coaching and management staff Mr Nigel Hotham, Mr Greg Kirkham, Mr Logan Asplin and Mrs Barbara Clark.
