HBHS win 11 medals at New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics Championships

From the 2nd to the 4th of December, 27 of our HBHS athletes headed to Waitakere in Auckland to compete in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics and Road Race Championships.  The team came away with 11 medals and numerous personal best times, jumps and throws.  Sports Captain Christopher Goodwin won three medals, winning gold in the Senior Boys Triple Jump and silvers in the High Jump and Long Jump.  Mattheus Pio also won three medals, winning gold in the Junior Boys 300m Hurdles, and bronze medals in the 100m Hurdles and in the 200m.  Our Senior Boys 3-man team won gold in the road relay event with Connor Tristram finishing 9th, Sam Montgomerie finishing 10th and Sean Trowern finishing in 38th place.  Tyler Wood won a bronze in the Senior Boys High Jump and Isaiah Priddey won a silver in the Senior Boys 3000m in a new Under 17 New Zealand record time.  Sadly Isaiah had to pull out of the 1500m the following day due to injury.  Jayden Gozdz won a bronze in the Junior Boys Javelin and our Junior 4 x 100m relay team of Charles Annals, Ty Hilton, Hamish Keenan and Mattheus Pio won a silver medal in their event.  Ty Hilton reached the finals of the Junior Boys 100m and 200m which was an extraordinary achievement for a Year 9 student, and Isaac Milne reached the finals of the Senior Boys 100m Hurdles and 300m Hurdles as well.  Christopher Goodwin and Isaiah Priddey were named in the New Zealand Secondary Schools paper team for 2017.  Congratulations to all of these athletes on their efforts in what has been a great weekend for HBHS sport, and thanks and congratulations to Ms Tonia Heeps for her tireless support of our HBHS Athletics team.
