HBHS retain Bartholomew Cup

On Wednesday night, St Paul's Collegiate challenged HBHS, and it was game on from the start.  St Paul's knew that they were definitely in with a chance to win after their 1 - 1 draw for the Matt Allen Trophy, and they showed the effects of their extensive preparation against an HBHS team that have had moments of brilliance, but have yet to put together a full 60 minute performance.  St Paul's scored twice to lead 2 - 0 at half time, and whatever was said at half time clearly worked, because HBHS came out firing in the second half.  Rhys Mclachlan scored off a penalty corner, but a controversial goal by St Paul's meant that the score was soon 3 - 1.  Aidan Sarikaya scored for HBHS off another penalty corner, but St Paul's were staying strong and it looked like the Bartholomew Cup was heading up Peachgrove Road.  Literally in the last minute HBHS managed to score the equaliser to finish the game at 3- 3 and to retained the Bartholomew Cup.  These two teams are set to meet again in the final on 25 June at Gallagher Hockey Turf, and the only thing that is certain is that it will be another tightly-fought nail-biter.  HBHS Hockey would like to thank their sponsors Waikato Milking Systems and Livingstone.  Their support has enabled our players to realise their potential.
