Tauranga Boys' College lost to the HBHS 1st XI Cricket team yesterday, allowing Hamilton to go through to the Gillette Cup championship in November.  Lonestar HBHS beat Whangarei Boys' High recently to qualify for this match.  They managed 229 - 8 from 50 overs in pleasant conditions yesterday, with Ryan Thomson making 87.  Tauranga were dismissed for 144, which gave HBHS the win by 85 runs. We will post the final Gillette Cup competition results on the website as they come to hand.

What is the Gillette Cup?

The Gillette Cup was set up in 1990 making it one of the longest running competitions in secondary school sport.

The Gillette Cup has become synonymous with secondary school boys cricket and with the development our players for the future. The competition provides schools whose normal sports programmes follow different paths, the opportunity of playing against one another at cricket.

The preliminary rounds in the Gillette Cup are played within the major cricket associations on a knockout basis.

In previous years eight teams participated in the finals tournament to be held over four days in Palmerston North. In 2010 six teams will participate (one from each of the major association's). The tournament will be held in Palmerston North from December 7-10.
