HBHS Win Regional Basketball Competition
HBHS recently competed with eight ‘very high quality basketball’ schools, to win the Waikato Secondary Schools Championship. This is the second time that we have won this particular competition. Mr Courtney, the team coach, explained that 2002 was the last time we were successful in this particular pool. The key players during the competition were Kirk Rangiawha, Rore Neho and Tamaki Courtney, with the Captain Weston Craig putting in a true captain’s effort.
A stand out moment in the competition occurred during the final – we ran a set play and Weston Craig scored a three-pointer on the buzzer that gave us a six point lead going into the last quarter. This kind of momentum made the game for our boys.
The team are now preparing for the National competition. The goal is to gain a top eight finish. We look forward to bringing you updates on the boys’ progress as it comes to hand.
